In Russia:

  • Over 100,000 children are taken from their parents every year.

  • Over 3000 children die as a direct result of their parents each year.

  • There are an estimated one million orphans in government care. Between 80-95% of these children are ‘social orphans’, meaning that their parents are alive, but are unfit to care for them.

  • Around two million teenagers are illiterate.

  • Over 90% of children  start drinking alcoholic beverages before the age of 15.

  • Estimated re-offending rates amongst juvenile delinquents in the Perm Region range from 70 to 90%.

  • The overwhelming majority will end up back in prison within a year, and a worryingly high number within a month.
