Volunteer
We are always looking for people to volunteer for Love’s Bridge! We have always relied heavily on the fantastic work of our volunteers.
If you are thinking of coming to Perm to volunteer for Love’s Bridge, then please read the following information before contacting us to start the application process:
- It is important to be a strong, self-sufficient character in order to work successfully as a volunteer at Love’s Bridge. The kids respond well to those who are ready to interact with them and teach them new skills, and it is important to the staff to have reliable, dependable volunteers.
- Knowledge of Russian isn’t vital, but a basic level is recommended – it obviously helps if you’re totally fluent! If you have little or no Russian, try to improve before you come to Perm, or plan to take classes when you get here. Love’s Bridge can’t provide you with a full-time translator, so be prepared to try and break down the language barrier!
- You will almost certainly experience culture shock, and working with these kids can be tiring, emotional and at times disheartening. However, it is also immensely rewarding, and you will have a true adventure out here. It can get as cold as -40 celcius in the winter, but there are also long, warm summer days in the beautiful Urals to enjoy too. The locals are extremely welcoming too, if a little over-curious at times!
- What the children and young people need more than anything are positive role models, so please refrain from smoking in front of them. Our volunteers are expected to be sober at all times whilst working with children. We are a non-religious organization, and we accept volunteers from all walks of life.
