In Russia:

  • Over 100,000 children are taken from their parents every year.
  • Over 3000 children die as a direct result of their parents each year.
  • There are an estimated one million orphans in government care. Between 80-95% of these children are ’social orphans’, meaning that their parents are alive, but are unfit to care for them.
  • Around two million teenagers are illiterate.
  • Over 90% of children  start drinking alcoholic beverages before the age of 15.
  • Estimated re-offending rates amongst juvenile delinquents in the Perm Region range from 70 to 90%.
  • The overwhelming majority will end up back in prison within a year, and a worryingly high number within a month.
